I’d probably steer clear of this tyre for off-road use during the winter months, at least here in the UK where mud is a factor, and save for drier trails where you can get away with a slick tyre. It features the tried and true “slick center/knobby edges” tread design which many gravel riders look for.

That tyre could feel pretty sketchy at high speeds on loose surfaces, the Byway does elevate just how fast and far you can push the bike into turns. Tread patterns remain the same here. I’m looking at the 700×44 Byways and thinking that it would be be the ideal tire for all pavement “Road” rides. Just a few short years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of using anything but a narrow full-slick Road tire for riding pavement. I urge you to experiment and invest in a decent pressure gauge.
It’s right at home on the road with the slick central channel providing low rolling resistance, allowing you to zip along country lanes with minimum speed penalty compared to a more conventional 700c road tyre setup. Unreal grip on really steep climbs (20%) due to the combination of the tread and the compound.
