Evans feel stiff and sound plastic-y to me.Evans G2's Clear and Coated sound defined and punchy....not dead sounding like Emperors. I've had Coated Emperors that were even deader than a Pinstripe. The title says it all. I used to use Pinstripes but I felt they were a little too thuddy and I didn't care for the pronounced plastic attack sound. What head is recommended to go on the resonant side of the drum? Would they have the same fullness and punch? I guessed they'd be a little more open than the G2 since they are a single ply, but still have the same durability. Pinstripes are the same type of head as an Emperor, but they have a muffling agent applied at the collar, designed to stop over-tones. I use Clear or Coated depending on the particular kitI like the sound of both, but overall prefer Evans because the coating lasts much, much longer than Remo. They have a fat sound, with a lot of attack and more pronounced mid and low ranged frequencies, with very little sustain. Ambassadors are the thinnest heads, made from a single ply of 10 mil mylar film. They open up and have a warmth that I don't find with other brands.
